Sometimes called Tyler Whitehouse Drag Strip, this strip was on the eastern edge of Whitehouse, fifteen miles southeast of Tyler, and is now a road in a business park. Ben Jarvis was one of the people who started it. Newspapers say little about it, but on Sunday, December 9, 1962, Harris French, 20, of Mesquite, possibly broke his back when his dragster’s parachute failed and he crashed through hay bales at the end of the track. The April 1969 issue of Hot Rod listed Whitehouse Raceway as NHRA sanctioned, with Richard Potter as manager and racing every Saturday night from May through October.
