This road course opened in 1957 and is said to have held drag races in 1959, but newspapers haven’t confirmed it.
Background
VIR sits in Alton near Danville, on the Dan River and less than half a mile from the North Carolina line outside Milton. Today it's busy with amateur and pro racing on two and four wheels, plus driving schools, club events and private test days.
