Background

The Strip is part of the Las Vegas Motor Speedway complex, owned by Speedway Motorsports, which centers on a 1.5-mile tri-oval and also has a 3/8-mile paved oval, a half-mile clay oval and road courses. The complex grew out of the Las Vegas Speedrome, a road course and drag strip finished in 1972 after Stardust International Raceway closed.
