This strip at Jacks Fork reportedly opened in 1958, though that hasn’t been confirmed. Races were held at the Jacks Fork airstrip just off Route 17, now Tappahannock Municipal Airport. A two-day meet on October 17-18, 1959, had both quarter-mile and half-mile races, with altered and fuel cars limited to the quarter. The Turkey Day Championship followed on November 22, 1959, and was expected to draw more than 200 cars from four states. It was NHRA sanctioned for that race, if not earlier.
