This eighth-mile track was at 2717 Ridge Road, just under three miles due north of Sullivan. Its opening date isn’t known, but it was running after 1966, and around 1972-73 it went by God’s Thunder Valley Raceway and Sullivan Raceway. R. L. Steel raced his ‘63 Comet there and remembered taking five or six carloads of people to the races and having bottle rocket fights on I-44 on the way home. In March 1974 the strip and a hundred acres of mostly cleared land were for sale. Two years later it still hadn’t sold, and 85 acres with the strip were listed at $67,000. Charles Mueller won an $8,500 judgment against the raceway because he was never paid for his share. The EPA listed the property as a superfund site for possible contamination or hazardous waste, but an inspection in 1985 found no further cleanup needed. Whether the drag strip caused the contamination is unknown. In recent years the strip has been used to store farm equipment.
