This eighth-mile strip was six miles south of Lawton and two miles west of I-44 at the Frederick exit (Exit 30), on Highway 36 just east of the old Faxon City Speedway, now torn down. When S. W. Raceway opened in 1967 it raced every Sunday afternoon. On June 11, 1967, GTOs raced free for GTO Day, and 442 Day followed a week later. The July 16, 1967 race drew 86 competitors. It seems to have run as Southwest Dragway through at least 1970. After an apparent gap of several years it reopened as Red River Dragway from 1975 to 1977. In 1977 it was IHRA sanctioned, racing every Sunday, and was briefly called Jim Stewart’s Motor Sports Park. By 1979 it was under NHRA. In 2007 ads offered the Sooner Motorplex eighth-mile drag strip and circle track for $625,000. The asphalt strip is still in fair shape and easy to see from the air.
