Don Jensen, who first drag raced in California in 1950, recalled racing at Scott’s Valley, between San Jose and Santa Cruz but closer to Santa Cruz, at least twice in 1949. The races were held at Sky Park Airport, a private field built in 1947. Citing Spencer Simon and the fourth issue of the Berkeley newsletter Rod Dust (November 1, 1950), written by racer and photographer Ken Fuhrmann, Jensen said the Santa Cruz Slopokes and Cam Snappers ran the strip with support from Cal Neva Timing and Manny Clinnick, and that only elapsed times were recorded, with a best of 14.69. About 100 hot rods raced on October 8, 1950 in front of about 2,000 people. The Northern California Timers Association had a race set for November 19, 1950 with 200 cars expected, but it was put off a week. About 1,000 people saw the make-up race on November 26, where Dick Fulmer of the Santa Cruz Slowpokes had top speed at 112 mph and Les Joseph of San Jose won top eliminator.
