The Bayview Timing Association ran NHRA-sanctioned races on a runway at the airport every other Sunday in 1959 and 1960, and possibly in 1958. The airport, now Skagit Regional Airport at Bayview, north of Mount Vernon, has had its triangular runway and taxiway layout since World War II. The federal government ran it until 1958, when it was handed to Skagit County. On June 21, 1959, in front of 1,500 spectators, Richard Thomas crashed his dragster after being clocked at 154 MPH and escaped serious injury.
