The Illinois Valley Idlers car club ran eighth-mile drag races on the paved streets of a surplus World War II shipyard housing development. Most of the houses had been torn down, and the cars raced on an abandoned concrete street still lined with curbs and sidewalks. They ran a short season in 1954 and full seasons in 1955 and 1956. After the Oswego strip opened nearby, they held just a few races in 1957 and then quit. It was popular with spectators, and races regularly drew more than 150 cars in two classes, bone stock and modified. Donald Rogers was the track steward.
