The Sunshine Coast Drag Racing Association started holding eighth-mile drag races at the Sechelt Airport in 2008. It was a once-a-year event through 2013, then grew to several races a year from 2014, with six race days in 2017. Racing went ahead in 2020 but without spectators because of COVID-19.
