The Shuswap Quarter Milers ran eighth-mile drag races at the Salmon Arm Industrial Park. The first, on July 15, 1979, drew 1,250 spectators, and the proceeds helped buy a Jaws of Life rescue tool. A second race followed on September 16. The strip claimed to be the “only uphill drag strip in North America,” and some joked that it was the Salmon Arm Incline Raceway. By 1981 development of the industrial park meant the club needed a new site, and that was the last year of racing.
