Before the Newark Timing Association formed in 1956, Newark racers were allowed to race on an unused part of old Route 40 east of Hebron while the highway was being rebuilt. Bob Farrow, the NTA’s last surviving member as of 2020, told his nephew Donald M. Farrow about it. In 1953 a mile of the old road was out of use, and the Newark kids who would later form the NTA raced there with the blessing of two Ohio State Patrol officers, who checked the cars and cleared them to race. Bob Farrow also raced at Powell and Hyde Park.
