This strip reportedly opened on June 29, 1958, under NHRA sanction. It was two miles south of Roanoke on Route 679 between Routes 119 and 220. The Roanoke Dragsters car club ran races in the early years, usually on the first and third Sundays in 1959 and every Sunday in 1960. In 1961 the strip was NASCAR sanctioned, had a new half mile of paving and new lights, and from June 10, 1961, raced on Saturday nights instead of Sundays. Keister Terry was track manager. Housing subdivisions now cover the site, and today’s Turkey Hollow Road runs where the strip was.
