The first drag race on this old WWII landing field, officially Marana Auxiliary Army Air Field No. 2, was held on July 8, 1951. Sunday races every other week usually drew more than forty cars. Racing may have lasted only a few weeks before Marana Army Air Field became the favored site. The old field is now Marana Regional Airport.
