In 1983 a group of Redmond businessmen started a nostalgia event to draw attention to Redmond Municipal Airport, and it became a Memorial Day tradition until 1987 or later. It included a Hangar Hop in the Advanced Aviation Hangar and an eighth-mile drag race focused on nostalgia rather than speed. The 1985 racing drew 2,500 spectators.
