The Paxton Record reported on July 14, 1955, that Rankin’s drag strip was drawing drivers from around the Midwest and even California. The Bloomington Pantagraph said on January 29, 1956, that a farmer had built the strip on his own land, which suggests it may have been dirt. Rob Sutter’s father raced there, and Sutter still has one of his trophies from the strip. Little else is known.
