History

In 1958 the Quarter Aces Car Club, with help from local doctor and community leader H. Robert Davis, raised the down payment on 44 acres along Petersburg Road in South Mountain Township to build an eighth-mile drag strip. Getting it ready took four more years. It opened in 1962 with a 75-cent fee to race, a 100-foot asphalt launch pad and 900 feet of gravel. Ron Wallace and Ed Stambaugh bought it in 1971 and renamed it South Mountain Dragway. They owned it for more than thirty years, built a new tower in 1983 and made many other upgrades. The track joined NHRA in 1985. Lights and Friday night racing came in the early 1990s, alongside the regular Sunday program, and the track was repaved in 1997. Stanley Dye bought it in 2007 and brought back the original name, Quarter Aces Drag-O-Way. After many improvements he put it up for sale in early 2014. Mike Natoli bought it, revamped it, renamed it South Mountain Raceway and reopened it.
