Cyrus L. Dishon filed incorporation papers for Pony Express Dragway on May 15, 1967. The short-lived track was on U.S. 36 two miles east of Troy, and Ron Davis was its announcer. Longtime locals remembered families who couldn’t afford the entry fee parking at the rest area above and watching the races from there. One recalled that the dragway closed in spring or early summer 1969 after a flagman was killed by a race car, whose driver was thought to be named Saverino, and never reopened. That fits with Cyrus and Robert Dishon taking basic plans for a modular housing development on the site to the Doniphan County Planning Commission early in 1971. Even so, a drag race ran there on Labor Day 1972. Only faint traces show in aerial photos today.
