The Cenla Gents car club of Alexandria ran drag races on a runway of this old World War II airfield four miles southwest of Pollock. An NHRA-sanctioned race on August 12, 1956 had 26 classes, with trophies for every class winner. More than a dozen years went by before Ronnie Paul and Manuel Willett organized and sponsored races there again. At that point it was the only drag strip in Louisiana with a concrete pit area. Pollock Dragway’s first race, on August 31, 1969, drew 200 racers and 2,500 spectators, and Herb Starks won top competition in his C/GD. In 1970 Donnie and Ronnie Paul resurfaced the runway and pits and bought new timing equipment, and they offered more than $2,000 in cash for a funny car meet on March 1, 1970 at what was then called Pollock Drag Raceway. No records after 1970 have turned up.
