This eighth-mile outlaw strip was seven miles south of Sallisaw on U.S. Highway 59. Ken Brown, whose frame house sat just north of it, reportedly built it in the mid-1990s, though a 1995 aerial photo shows nothing there. Brown had built an eighth-mile go-kart track on the site in 1976, and he also put up a motel and amusement park nearby. The strip was first called Pier 7 Dragstrip, after his fishing and camping supply store across the highway, and probably kept that name through at least 2004. It began with 1,000-foot racing but cut back to an eighth-mile when cars got too fast to stop safely. Brown managed it at first and later handed that job to others. On October 9, 2004, Mark Smith ran his Air Force One jet dragster there, saying he hoped to strengthen the reputation of the three-year-old strip.
Newspapers said the name changed almost every year. It was Hot Rod City Raceway in 2006, and Woods Brothers Raceway from 2007, when Tim, Bill and Dave Woods took over, through at least 2009. By 2012 it was the Outlaw Dragstrip of Sallisaw, managed by Joe Mumma. Some seasons it didn’t run at all. The track was in poor shape in 2019 when Bil Brown leased it and made Ricky Napper manager. The five-year lease was cut to three after Ken Brown died in 2019, and the new owner didn’t renew it, so racing ended after the 2021 season.
