The Texans Car Club got 1,200 acres of government land west of the Fort Stockton airport and set out to raise $5,000 to $8,000 for an asphalt drag strip there. Meanwhile the city let the club race on an airport runway. It held three races there that fall, every third Sunday with trophies for class winners, and cleared $850 after expenses. Nothing else has turned up after 1962, so the strip probably never got built and racing at the airport probably didn’t continue.
