An earlier Antelope Valley Raceway came before this strip. The Palmdale Raceway drag strip, six miles east of Palmdale, held its first race in October 1964. Mike Santino owned it and Ray Sissener managed it, and in 1967 it was renamed Antelope Valley Raceway. It closed after the 1975 season and reopened under NHRA sanction in 1978 as Kings Antelope Valley Raceway. In 1984 it became Los Angeles County Raceway (LACR), run by Jerry and Shirley Shore. Granite Construction, a mining company that had leased the land to LACR, wanted to mine the property and shut the track down. The last race was on July 29, 2007, and within three months every building had been demolished and no asphalt was left.
