Oswego Speedway, a paved, banked 5/8-mile oval, was built in 1951. It first held drag racing demonstrations in 1961. The Empire State Racing Association put on demonstrations in front of the grandstand on Saturday night, July 7, and on August 25, 1962, and did the same several times a year from 1963 through 1967.
Background
Oswego still races on its 5/8-mile oval and has hosted the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour and USAC Silver Crown cars. Each October the track gets a temporary dirt surface for Super Dirt Week, and Labor Day weekend brings the 200-lap big-block supermodified Budweiser Classic.
