Sources disagree on when this strip opened, some saying the late 1950s and others 1960. Sometime before 1982 it was replaced by a quarter-mile dirt oval, Fork Mountain Raceway. R. C. Grimes, nephew of the oval’s later owner, said the drag strip ran successfully for a number of years before the oval took its place.
