Northway Airport was a private field north of Columbus. It hosted the Ohio State Championship drag races on Memorial Day, Thursday, May 30, 1957, sponsored by the American Timing Association, with the Marion Wildcats car club doing much of the planning. County commissioners had been fighting the airport’s use as a drag strip in court since that spring. Their case got stronger on September 29, 1957, when a small plane landing on the grass runway, which crossed the paved drag strip, swerved to miss two drag racers by ten feet and crashed upside down. The three people aboard weren’t seriously hurt. The airport was northeast of Morse and Karl Roads. It was sold off piece by piece for houses, apartments and businesses, and nothing of it was left by the late 1980s.
