History
Gordon Schade and Ernie Schultz built this drag strip ten miles north of Prince George on Chief Lake Road, spending close to $250,000 to develop it on 140 acres of private and government land. In 1983 the AHRA-sanctioned track hosted a two-day Grand American regional points event. After Schade died in 1994, Ron Cowie of Burnaby bought the strip and brought it up to NHRA specifications in 1995, but he never turned a profit, and the NHRA affiliation ended after the 2006 season. Shane Lodjn bought the 138-acre property in 2010 and put it under IHRA sanction in 2011, then sold it to Brent Marshall in June 2012. Marshall put close to $2 million into renovations. In 2013 he got two local businesses, Rolling Mix Concrete and IDL Projects, to help lay 720 feet of new concrete, a $300,000 job covering about half the quarter mile. The track, then called Northland Dodge Motorsports Park, was renamed Rolling Mix Concrete Raceway, and the whole complex became NITRO Motorsports Park, after the Northern Interior Timed Racing Organization. Marshall proposed giving all proceeds from big NHRA events to local charities chosen by the two companies, and $100,000 went to charity in 2013.
