The Maine Hot Rod Association arranged drag races at the old military airfield west of Norridgewock. The first, on May 3, 1964, was AHRA-sanctioned and drew 1,600 spectators. Joe Murray of Brewer had the day’s fastest time at 107.14 mph in his super stock car, and Si Sidebotham of Sanford made exhibition runs in his A/FD with a best of 163.90 mph. On May 31, Bernard Regal set the track record at 8.43 and 166.80 mph in the A & B Speed Shop fuel dragster from Massachusetts. The July 4 race came with an all-day chicken barbecue, street dancing and fireworks. The 1964 season ended November 1. One racer remembered running there in 1965, but no newspaper reports of racing in 1965 or 1966 have been found. The Swedish magazine Start & Strip still listed it among 325 U.S. drag strips in 1968.
