In 1980 Les Edmunds, leader of the Ashcroft Indian Band, began building a racing facility on the Ashcroft/Cache Creek Aero Club’s old airstrip near Ashcroft and Cache Creek. It opened in 1987 under NHRA sanction, began hosting an NHRA regional race in 1989, and won NHRA Division 6 Track of the Year in 1990, 1991 and 2003. In 2010 it switched to AHRA sanction, and from 2011 until it closed in 2016 it ran under IHRA. After more than 28 years, falling racer turnout and costly maintenance and repairs shut it down. The name is pronounced IN-clap-cappum, the local form of the native name for the Thompson nation.
