This strip, probably an eighth-mile, was a quarter mile southwest of Nicholsville just east of State Route 222, between Laycock Road and the Laurel-Nicholsville Roads. It sat on what’s called Starlite Lane, which might hint at one of its names, though that’s only a guess. The Modified Chariots car club of Bethel ran races every Sunday. In 1962, David Eads and William Farmers of Elmwood Place bought the 25-acre tract, where newspapers said a strip had run several years earlier, which points to the late 1950s. They planned to spend $25,000 on new blacktop, which suggests the old strip was paved, plus bleachers, modern restrooms and a refreshment stand. Neighbors circulated petitions against it. In June 1962 a judge issued a temporary injunction against operating the strip once it was finished, while letting construction go ahead. In October 1962 the court sided with the residents and ruled the strip couldn’t run because it was a nuisance. Its years, exact location and history still need more research.
