Sam Kennamer ran New Hope Drag Strip in 1963, when the NHRA-sanctioned track raced every Sunday. The old strip lies near 440 West Carpenter Road in New Hope. On satellite maps the launch pad shows beside the road, with the overgrown track lined by trees running back toward town, and West Carpenter Road becomes Race Track Road on the way into New Hope. A local whose father regularly raced a gasser there said the track was really narrow and that the owner died around 1999. As at most Southern tracks, super stock racing was popular. Jim Cochrane of Priceville won Stock Eliminator in his 427 Ford at the October 6, 1963 race and was often the featured car in super stock match races.
