Interest in a Cordova drag strip goes back to 1960, when a meeting at Cordova city hall discussed opening one somewhere around Cordova in Walker County. This track has switched names back and forth: Bama Dragway first, New Bama Dragway from 1998, then Bama Dragway again from 2008. One online reference says it opened in 1991. In July 1997 the 32-acre track, then called Bama Dragway, was offered at auction. George Howard filed incorporation papers for New Bama Dragway on January 23, 1998, the earliest documentation found, though the track may have opened before that. Bernard E. Longjohn filed papers for Bama Dragway on February 18, 2008. The last races reportedly ran in 2011. It had been an NHRA member track, and at the end of that year the 32-acre property went up for auction. In spring 2017 the track was putting in new guardrails and scheduling asphalt repairs ahead of reopening.
