The dragway hosted a two-day NHRA World Series of Championship Drag Racing event on July 2-3, 1966. On August 7, 1966, Buddy Taylor of Lumberton, North Carolina, won $75 for top stock eliminator in his ‘57 Chevy. The Myrtle Beach Jaycees planned a two-day Southeastern Drag Race for November 26-27, 1966, but called it off because of poor ticket sales. A two-day NHRA regional with a $3,500 purse ran on June 3-4, 1967. The staging lanes and launch pad were one paved area, and past that the strip split into two lanes with a wide grass strip between them. A 1968 list of U.S. drag strips in the Swedish magazine Start & Strip included it. One local’s father told him the old strip is now Forestbrook Drive, the access road to a housing area, and that the track shut down in the 1960s after a bad accident. He said the road is still as straight as ever.
