Ads from 1959 put this strip on Cedar Point Road in Mobile. Don G. Baldwin, Frank B. Baldwin, Helen Baldwin, Betty Jo Goforth and Bob C. Goforth filed incorporation papers for the Mobile Drag Strip on November 19, 1958. It was open by April 10, 1959, when Don Garlits appeared at a Sunday race. By April 7, 1963, it had become Dauphin Island Dragway, with races sponsored by the Pascagoula Timing Association and run under NASCAR rules. Everything known comes from newspaper ads, and the exact site hasn’t been pinned down. Cedar Point Road becomes Dauphin Island Parkway, and near the south end of the parkway in Coden is a Drag Strip Lane that may mark the old strip. Topographic maps from 1975, 1984 and 1986 show what could be a drag strip or an airfield landing strip.
