This strip was three miles north of West Plains beside Highway 14, possibly on what old topo maps mark as Sky Haven Airport. On Sunday, July 26, 1970, Arnold Theodore Sondergregger of St. Charles couldn’t stop his dragster after a 149 mph quarter-mile run. He hit an embankment, flew over the highway at the end of the strip, and was hospitalized. It may have raced quarter miles in 1970 before shortening to an eighth. At some point Don Young of Kansas City leased it and renamed it West Plains International Drag Strip.
