The Kamloops Sports Racers ran drag races on McGill Road in the Southgate Industrial Park in the 1980s. The first, on October 10, 1982, had 90 entries and an estimated 7,000 spectators. The 1983 season opened on May 1 with another 90 entries and more than 3,000 fans. In 1986 the club talked with the Ashcroft Indian Band about building a drag strip on its reserve, which led to the Nl’akapxm Eagle Motorplex.
