The Fort Riley Racing Association held drag races on Saturdays in 1972 on the main runway of Marshall Army Airfield. Military personnel paid a dollar a year to race. There were starting lights but no timing equipment, and the starting line kept in touch with the tower in case a plane needed to make an emergency landing.
