This half-mile dirt oval was built in 1954 on the site of a former dog track at 35th Avenue and West Broadway in southwest Phoenix. A Saturday night drag racing program started around June 10, 1961, but it may have been a short experiment that ended after a race or two. The track closed and was sold in 2009 and has since been torn down.

Background

Manzanita ran 1/3-mile and 1/2-mile dirt tracks and stayed a fixture of USAC sprint car racing for decades after the drag program. The property was sold to a rigging company, and the last race there took place on April 11, 2009.
