History

Drag racing started here in 1971 under NHRA sanction, at a track first called Mana Raceway, just northwest of Kekaha. Locals also call it Mana Drag Strip. Now named Kauai Raceway Park, it still runs quarter-mile races under NHRA sanction and is operated by the Garden Isle Racing Association. The surface had badly deteriorated since its last resurfacing in 1972, and in 2013 the state legislature put up $1.3 million to renovate and resurface it. It reopened in 2014 after 18 months of work.
