This track was on an old WWII landing strip five miles north of Bascom and three miles east of Malone on State Highway 2. During the war it was Auxiliary Airfield #3 for Marianna Air Force Base, and it was also called Bascom Field. It’s not known when racing started, but one early race was on November 19, 1961. From the start it went by either Tri-State Raceway or Malone Drag Strip. Sol Stewart reportedly leased the old field from a local farmer and raced there every Sunday, charging $1 admission. A race ran June 16, 1963, and R. E. Reynolds won Super Stock on July 14, 1963. On November 17, 1963, more than 200 racers competed for over $1,500 in cash and merchandise at the first annual North Florida Championship Drags, with Bill Glandt as race spokesman. Dave Youngman was one of the promoters in 1965.
