History
George Perron (or Parent) was the first owner of this quarter-mile strip, which opened on August 17, 1969. Its second season had 25 events scheduled. On August 22, 1971, Dave Routliffe died driving his ‘49 Anglia in time trials. In 1976 the strip switched from classified car racing to bracket racing, which brought in far more racers. Jim Barkely bought the track in 1980 and added a new staging area and a concrete burnout pit, and Labatt Breweries paid a large share of the purse and trophies. He scheduled 30 weeks of racing, with a two-day meet on the last weekend of each month: eighth-mile racing on Saturday and quarter-mile on Sunday. Arnie Malcolm bought the track in late 1981 and affiliated it with NHRA. He has owned it for more than 40 years and was still the owner in 2021. The whole track was repaved in concrete in fall 2020.
