Lowry Air Force Base

Background

Lowry started as Lowry Field in 1938 and trained Army Air Forces crews in World War II and Air Force personnel through the Cold War. From 1955 to 1958 it was the first home of the Air Force Academy, so the 1955 races overlapped with the Academy's arrival. The base has since closed.
