Lloyd Young built this narrow eighth-mile track. At first it was mostly dirt with a 100-foot concrete starting pad, and in 1963 the full 1,056 feet was paved. The shutdown ran uphill, and there was a return road near the finish line. Timing was primitive, done with stopwatches, finish line spotters and telephones.
