Jim Vaill built a 1.5-mile asphalt road course in Lime Rock, on a site where he also owned and ran a gravel pit, and it opened in 1957. The course, still running today, has a 2,000-foot straightaway 40 feet wide, which was used for timed quarter-mile drag races on March 29-30, 1958. Newspapers called it the first drag racing event of the season, which suggests there may have been drag racing in 1957, but nothing has been found to show it. No other drag race at the course has turned up.
