In late January 1958, the Northwest Ohio Timing Association met with 400 interested people at Gomer High School to pitch a drag strip for the area. Gerald Sisler and Ross Crites donated land on their 140-acre farm on Route 117 between Kemp and Coon Roads, southwest of Lima, and gave the association a ten-year lease. The plan called for a strip 60 feet wide and 3,700 feet long. Ground was broken and a center line laid out in February 1958, with no completion date set. Racing would be allowed any day of the week, and the association would keep 75 percent of entry fees. It isn’t known whether the strip was finished or ever raced.
