The Rum Runners car club of Fresno got the Lemoore City Council’s permission to race on the old dirt WWII training field at the inactive Army air base. The first race was on August 28, 1955. Racers paid $1 per car and spectators 75 cents. Races ran once a month, and the last was on October 16, 1955, when Harry Boudakian had top speed of the meet at 110.77 mph in his A/R. A 1955 aerial photo suggests the cars ran from southeast to northwest.
