In mid-May 1955 the city council let the Gasoline Cowboys car club drag race on a strip of land at the old Lawton Airport. Around August 1955 the club got a lease for Sunday races on a 2,500-foot strip there. Racing seems to have happened only in 1955.

A close examination of this 1957 aerial view of the old Lawton Municipal Airport has not revealed where the 2,500 foot strip of land was leased to the Gasoline Cowboys car club for drag racing. Although this aerial view was taken two years after the racing took place, it is likely the footprint of the old strip would be visible, but it is not.
