At a race sponsored by the Peninsula Sports Car Club on October 18, 1959, 3,500 spectators watched 45 cars compete for sixteen trophies. Red Murrel of Newport News won top eliminator in his Chevy at 96 MPH, and Bobby Burns was runner-up in his blown Olds-powered ‘32 Ford.
