This eighth-mile strip about four miles southeast of Selma was open by 1972, possibly earlier. On Friday night, July 8, 1977, it hosted the “Rebel Dragsters” circuit, with drivers including Ralph Phillips, Ed Chandler, Ray Heathcoe and Betty Collier. The Sunday before, Collier had reached the semifinals at Atmore Dragway’s “Firecracker 10,000” with a 4.98 at 150 mph. Chuck Heath and Max Thompson owned Lakeside Dragway in 1981. Under owner Bill Maddox it ran as Selma Dragway in 1988-89. It was probably Dallas County Dragway from about 1993 to about 2011. William H. Spivey filed incorporation papers for Selma Motorsports Park on January 31, 2012, and Harold and Trey Spivey ran it. It may no longer operate. Much of this history is speculative.
