The newly formed Lug-Nuts car club held its first drag race at the Lake Wichita Airport, southwest of Wichita Falls, on March 15, 1953, and kept racing there every Sunday. The club hoped to have its own drag strip one day. Tom Danaher bought the airport in 1971, and it is now called Danaher Airport.
