History

This track opened in 1967 as Keystone Drag Strip. The earliest race on record was July 23, 1967, when John Scaglione’s car flipped end over end and left him with abrasions. Art Arfons made exhibition runs in his “Green Monster” on August 6. That August the track held the first National Association Automobile Racing (NAAR) National Championships, which became a yearly event there. More than 20,000 spectators were expected at the 1968 edition at Keystone Raceway Park on August 23-25, where Al Czerniak of Philadelphia won top fuel in his AA/FD at 7.06 seconds and 206.89 MPH. Five jet dragsters put on a show on September 29, 1968. Hot Rod listed Keystone as an NHRA track in June 1970, with Walt Mentzer as manager. The NAAR Summer Nationals on August 7-8, 1971, the fifth straight summer at Keystone, drew entries from fourteen states. A motocross track was built on the grounds in 1974, and the strip was NHRA sanctioned by at least 1976. Around 1979 it went by Keystone Raceway or Pittsburgh Raceway Park. In 2005 Michael Tedesco owned Pittsburgh Raceway Park and Greg Miller leased it from him and managed it. It returned to NHRA sanction in 2026.
